Learning Objectives:

During this term of MMC, I have several goals and learning objectives in mind. When I first started this program, I had no idea what to expect, and quite frankly, this course intimidated me more than any other. Learning new ways to promote and communicate felt really foreign. I also had a challenging time wrapping my mind around the idea that I could use my own creativity and artistic background for more practical and business prospects. Not to mention, learning and using Adobe Creative Suite…

However, this term, I’m feeling far more confident with my skills and abilities. I really enjoyed learning a new medium to create art last term. Now, I’m excited to see how I can use what I learned and be able to push it into a more practical application.

I want to learn as much about the marketing field as I can. I’m beginning to see my own interests shift towards that direction for a career path, and would like to see where my new found interest will take me. Since the beginning of this program (and for the years leading up to my acceptance), I have been feeling my own pressures that I’ve placed on myself to establish a solid career, but have no idea where I see myself going. After the end of last term, I’m finally starting to feel like I have an interest, and now, I want to develop that interest into a trajectory.

I’ve talked to a few of the second year students about their research methods (namely Anne O’Dell, Carrie Morton, and Emily Volkmann). Overwhelmingly, they have all described their research methods as being more from a qualitative approach rather than a quantitative approach. However, they were very honest with the fact that they are still molding their own methods, and have difficulties classifying their approaches to fit specifically into one method. With the prospect of working in graduate level research, it is somewhat relieving that there are second year students that are still forming their own ideas and approaches to their projects.
