A newly-created website offers GEO partners an improved way to gain ongoing information regarding global emergencies affecting GEO students.
The GEO Emergency Updates website is located at blogs.uoregon.edu/geonews/ and will automatically email study abroad staff at partnered institutions when an emergency update is posted.
In the event of a health or safety emergency involving enrolled students, GEO will always make every effort to personally and directly notify the student’s sending school as soon as possible, and typically within 24 hours. The GEO Emergency Updates website is intended to supplement these efforts so that all GEO partners are kept up-to-date regarding the status of GEO programs and students.
Updates will be provided as available until the situation is resolved. To subscribe additional staff to the update list, enter their email address in the “Subscribe By Email” section in the footer of the GEO Emergency Updates website.
The website is part of GEO’s ongoing effort to maintain regular communication with partners and to provide robust crisis management support.
In the event of a crisis outside of regular business hours (including nights, weekends, and holidays), partners are also encouraged to call GEO’s 24-Hour Emergency Answering Service at (503) 764-4146.
