New GEO Study Abroad Advisors

We are pleased to announce the addition of three new study abroad advisors to the GEO team: Chin Yi Chen, Margaret Stanny, and Dana Elliott. These advisors are filling the positions vacated by Katie Weibel, Rick Batchelor, and Michelle Cruz, who recently transitioned to her new position as program coordinator for GEO.

Information on the professional background of each new advisor, along with their GEO advising duties can be found below.

Chin Yi Chen, chinyic@uoregon.edu

Chin Yi Chen received an MS degree in Higher Education Administration from the University of Dayton. She has worked within Dayton’s Center for International Programs as a peer advisor and more recently as a resident coordinator at the international residence hall. Chin Yi is originally from Singapore and as a student she participated in 3 different kinds of study abroad programs (language immersion in Morocco, exchange program in Korea, and service learning in Guatemala). At GEO she will be working with programs in Asia and the Middle East.

Margaret Stanny, mstanny@uoregon.edu

Margaret Stanny is coming from Purdue University where she worked as a study abroad advisor and administrator for the College of Liberal Arts. She has an MA in French from the University of Illinois, Urbana Champaign. Margaret has twice served as a graduate assistant for the University of Illinois’ Paris center, working alongside the site director to support students with academic advising, intercultural communication, risk management, visa processing, and excursions. She has led presentations at NAFSA on intercultural learning and became a qualified administrator for the Intercultural Development Inventory. At GEO Margaret will be working with programs in Europe, including France, Italy, and Greece.

Dana Elliott, danaell@uoregon.edu

Dana Elliott is coming from the University of South Dakota where she served as a Global Learning Advisor. She was previously a Study Away Coordinator at Lewis-Clark State College in Idaho. Dana has an MA in TESL from the University of Idaho, a BA in German, and she taught English in Germany as a Fulbright ETA. She also has experience advising students on distinguished scholarships including Boren, Gilman, and Fulbright. At GEO, Dana will be working with programs in Europe, including the UK, Germany, and Honors College programs.
