Go to “New Users” to create an account. You will submit a short questionnaire, then you will be taken to the account page. You will be asked to select your major. Choose: Geography, which is listed under the College of Arts and Science.
You will also be asked to select a term. This refers to the term you expect to begin taking classes. Most EDGE students begin in the summer term.
A $50.00 non-refundable fee is collected by the Office of Admissions for the Graduate Admissions Application. The Graduate School sets and collects this fee. Wavers are available on a limited basis.
Retain your login credentials (username and password) in a safe place for future reference.
2. Transcripts
You will need two copies of your transcripts. You must submit all official degree transcripts directly to the Office of Admissions at the address listed below. The Office of Admissions requires official transcripts only from colleges or universities from which you received a bachelor’s degree and any subsequent degrees. Transcripts must show degrees awarded. Scan and upload a second copy of your transcripts to the GradWeb site. There are no exceptions to this requirement. Failure to follow the instructions may delay application review. We cannot consider your application file complete until we have received all transcripts—even those from schools where you took only a few courses – in GradWeb. Mail your official transcripts to:
Office of Admissions
240 Oregon Hall
1217 University of Oregon
Eugene, OR 97403-1217
If you have a degree or have taken courses from the University of Oregon, you do not need to send a transcript to the GEOG-ED Program or the UO Office of Admissions. Students with degrees from foreign institutions must submit an official transcript plus a certified translations in English of the transcripts. If the degree is not displayed on the transcripts, an official degree/diploma certificate, with the certified translations, is also required.
3. Letters of Recommendation (Three)
The recommendation process is 100% online via GradWeb. Enter the required information (first name, last name, position, institution, and e-mail) for at least three referees and press “Submit.” An automated e-mail will be sent to each person with instructions on how to respond.
You may add a fourth referee, if desired; however, you may not change any referee information once the e-mail has been sent. Ask for recommendations from employers or supervisors, professors, or someone who can speak specifically to your maturity and ability to do work at the graduate level.
4. Statement of Purpose
You must upload your Statement of Purpose online via GradWeb. The statement is used to evaluate your ability to communicate in writing, to assess your potential for success in the GEOG-ED Program, and to see if there is a fit between what you are seeking and what the program provides. The statement (two to three, double spaced pages) should describe:
Your educational background.
Your educational and professional goals.
A few paragraphs discussing what attributes and experiences you have that will make you a strong candidate for the GEOG-ED program.
5. TOEFL or IELTS Score – International Students Only
