My design, Habitat 360, is set towards creating a building that would be an example of the way humans can begin living with other animals. The goal is to create spaces to nurture the individual, the community, and the other organism. The key ideas where; have clusters that divided the tower into local communities and to have spaces for animals to inhabit without being disturbed.
However during my final critique a lot of feedback was given to me in order to improve my design. Since natural light is something people crave and need; one of the main critiques was rethinking about the scale I was working on to improve the amount of natural light for interior spaces (that are not residential). While my design is working towards a building that has environmental impact, its urban connections are lacking. It is not grounded to the site as much as it could be improved by setting up an experience as one arrives and as one leaves, or by connecting it to larger entity of the city.
So far my vertical and horizontal circulation is resolved and was advised to be my next step in designing. As a way to improve the environmental impact my building has on the environment it should become more porous. As an emotional experience, Habitat 360 provides for close knitted communities yet further improvement includes a stronger experience as one approaches the building.
After my final review, it would be best to redo my building with my structure as a basis to where solid forms are and where voids are located. But as an improvement to my poster, a render that shows more would also be best.
A great achievement I attained this term was beginning to understand grasshopper and how it works. Although I still have more to learn, I now have a basis for improvement. Another form of growth I attained was being able to use my 3d models to make design decisions.
Next term I will work on improving my grasshopper skills in order to also be able to further use it as a design tool. A second goal is to work on my digital rendering skills for a more realistic examples that show what my building is like.
