ENG 104 Climate Change Fiction Final Project
Final project part II guidelines
So far this term, we have read and discussed a number of examples of the emerging genre of climate change fiction (or “cli-fi”). These works have spanned many genres and several different forms (short story, graphic novel, novel). However, there are MANY more examples of cli-fi out there that we simply didn’t have time to get to in a 10 week term, and many that are more radical in their form/medium. In the coming few weeks we will be exploring a few of these more radical works of cli-fi. For those of you interested in creating final projects that are a bit different from a short story or a novel traditionally conceived (or even if you are planning on writing a short story but want to do something much different with it), here are a few resources you might want to explore for ideas and comparator texts, or just as a way to get your creative juices flowing:
General resources:
This website includes links to many examples of art and literature dealing with climate change themes: http://eco-fiction.com/media-arts-climate-change/
Another useful resource for artistic projects having to do with climate change: http://artistsandclimatechange.com/
More specific resources/possible comparator texts:
FutureCoast, voicemails from the future project (An alternate reality game cli-fi project)
After Water, WBEZ Chicago Public Radio Climate Fiction Podcast (A podcast series of authors reading their original works of cli-fi)
Selection from A Visit From The Goon Squad, Jennifer Egan (A piece of short fiction written in the form of a PowerPoint presentation)
“The Right Sort” by David Mitchell (A short story written entirely as a series of tweets; not about climate change specifically, though we did read another work by Mitchell this term)
New Atlantis (An immersive theatre experiment in cli-fi)
