Meet the New Communications Chair – Carrie Morton!

Carrie PicHailing from Austin, Texas, Carrie earned a Bachelor’s degree in Communication Design from Texas State University, and an Associate’s in Photography from Rochester Institute of Technology. In the year following graduation, Carrie served as an Americorps member, which inspired her to continue working with youth in a variety of settings. She spent the next several years strengthening her practice in graphic design, art, education, event coordinating, and tour guiding. Carrie was a regular volunteer with the Austin Children’s Museum (now the Thinkery), and served as the Education Intern for Arthouse at the Jones Center (now The Contemporary).

A nature enthusiast at heart, Carrie is constantly seeking ways to integrate the arts and the outdoors. She aims to combine these passions through her studies in the Arts and Administration program at UO. With a focus in Museum Studies, Carrie’s research interests explore the intersection of nature observation, visual arts, and museum education.  Carrie is also a Laurel Award recipient, serving as the Exhibitions Assistant at the Museum of Natural and Cultural History on campus. During her interim summer, she interned at the Audubon Society of Portland, where she spent most of her time with children in the woods and soaking up awareness-based educational models. She hopes to someday create and facilitate immersive, educational excursions for people of all ages to connect with nature and tap into their own creative resourcefulness.
