Summer Intern Series: Elizabeth Miller

Each summer, the Community Service Center (CSC) offers paid summer internships to second-year community and regional planning students through three of its programs: the Community Planning Workshop (CPW), Oregon Partnership for Disaster Resilience (OPDR), and the Economic Development Administrative University Center (EDAUC).

CSC internships are the perfect opportunity to explore potential careers and develop skills essential to specific industries or job types within community and regional planning. You will gain hands-on real-world experiences, develop potential and make key contacts for future networking, get feedback from university faculty and industry professionals, expand resumes, and most importantly, learn about yourself. Plus with a CSC summer internship, it’s all done in the time you already have off from school!

CSC summer internships opportunities are typically announced prior to Spring break with formal offers made in late April-early May. It’s just one of the many perks of being involved with the CSC. We hope you will join the summer internship team and experience what the CSC can offer you in your quest to find your perfect career.

Luncheon Invite: Engaging Stakeholders in Policy Discussions

“The presentation will focus on lessons learned in engaging stakeholders in policy discussions.”

Oregon Willamette Valley APWA

The Willamette Valley APWA Luncheon will be held from 11:45-AM to 1:00-PM on Tuesday August 18, 2015 at Kowloon’s Restaurant at 2222 Martin Luther King Blvd, in Eugene.

Engaging stakeholders in public works issues is often a difficult endeavor. Josh Bruce, director of the Oregon Partnership with Disaster Resilience at the University of Oregon and Beth Goodman, senior planner at ECONorthwest, will discuss their experiences with engaging stakeholders in meaningful discussions about complex planning and policy issues. Josh and Beth will present key principles of stakeholder engagement and provide examples of applying (or misapplying) these principles.

The Oregon APWA Chapter is an association of more than 800 professional engineers, technicians, operations staff, public works directors, business people, contractors, consultants and many others who join together to exchange ideas and information, promote education and training, and work as a team to meet professional and community needs. Nationally, APWA represents almost 30,000 public works professionals and offers excellent professional development programs and member services.

Please RSVP to EugeneAPWALuncheon@ci.eugene.or.us by Monday August 17, 2015 if you plan to attend.
