Campus Wide Wildfire Smoke Control Plan – New OR-OSHA Rule – 8/10/21

UPDATE 8/12/21:

Due to the AQI exceeding 101, Facilities Services has been directed to place HVAC systems, which are part of the Building Automation System, into “Smoke Mode”.  Smoke mode minimizes the introduction of outside air and maximizes recirculation of inside air.  Buildings with fume hoods and other systems which require 100% outside air to function properly will not be in smoke mode, even if they are controlled by the BAS system.

Additionally, please close all windows to help prevent the air quality in doors from further deteriorating.

For questions, please contact CPFM Work Control Center at 541-346-2319 and your questions will be routed to the appropriate group.

Original Notice 8/11/21

Safety & Risk Services is working with campus partners on a wildfire smoke control plan that aims to reduce the impact of wildfire smoke on our people and our buildings. To help prevent smoke from getting into buildings, we ask that windows and doors be kept closed in all our buildings once the AQI exceeds 100. The plan also addresses potential changes to HVAC systems to limit outside air during these times. SRS will be actively monitoring AQI during wildfire season and plans to email this Facility Liaison list when AQI exceeds 100 as a reminder to check windows and doors and to help communicate with your building occupants to do the same. SRS will also issue a notification when the air quality has dropped back down below 101.

Thank you,

Safety and Risk Services
