UO Chemistry and Biochemistry Senior Instructor Deborah Exton has been appointed to the Board of Trustees for American Chemistry Society Division of Chemical Education. Dr. Exton’s appointment will begin January 1, 2016 and continue through December 31, 2017.
The Board of Trustees oversees all aspects of the Exams Institute. The Institute began as a project of the ACS Division of Chemical Education in 1930. It was called the Examinations Committee until 1984, when the name was changed to the Examinations Institute to better reflect the scope of assessment activities carried out through the program.
The Exam Institute’s Board of Trustees is appointed by the ACS DivCHED Executive Committee. Trustees meet at each ACS National Meeting, where they receive reports from the Director and set overall policy for the Institute. In addition, the Institute is currently working to build a digital archive of the history of ACS Exams.
