The overall aim of this project will be to create a safe environment for discussion and education for the Asian, Desi, Pacific Islander community. A mentorship program will break down cultural barriers through respectful educational dialogue between Asian, Desi, Pacific Islander students and professionals. Students will gain support needed from their mentors through meaningful relationships.
Expectations:
Time commitment and participation are both important in order for this program to be successful. It is important that participants commit themselves to the mentoring program by working with their mentor/mentee on an agreed expectation.
Mentor:
• It is expected that mentors reach out to their mentee at least once a month, attend at least once a term networking meeting event.
Mentee:
• It is expected that mentee attend workshops provided by ADPI SIG, Campus Partners; Student Alumni Association, Career Center or CMAE.
• Attend at least one professional workshop, attend meetings once per month and attend one of the professional development or networking once per term.
Mentor Benefits:
• Demonstrates a commitment to personal and academic development of self and mentees.
• Create new support networks for the peer mentor and mentees.
• Assist mentees in becoming acclimated to the campus community and aware of campus resources.
• Assist mentees in avoiding common academic, social, and personal pitfalls.
Mentee Benefits:
• Enhanced academic performance.
• Acquire increased skills to be able to network with peers and professionals.
• Obtain increased awareness of the value of interdependence and self-advocacy
• Provided with the tools needed to have a successful college experience.
