A big congrats to Brandon, who graduated with honors today, and was selected for the Warner Peticolas Award for Excellence in Undergraduate Chemical Research in Physical Chemistry! This award is an annual prize to a University of Oregon undergraduate who has distinguished themself by performing the best research in Physical Chemistry. Well deserved, Brandon – congrats!

Big congrats to Michael and James on their Graduate Student Awards for Excellence in the Teaching of Chemistry! Michael was the head TA for the General Chemistry Laboratory this year, while James was a TA for the Physical Chemistry Laboratory. Great job, both!

A big congratulations to Laura on receiving the Pchem Undergraduate Fellowship! The fellowship will allow her to continue her research this summer on the thermal annealing of squaraine thin films, so she can understand how the changing intermolecular orientations affect the electronic structure and dynamics of these potential solar cell materials. Great job, Laura – this is really well deserved!

I’m tremendously honored to receive the A.J. Ersted Award for Distinguished Teaching this year! I’m really grateful to work at a place with fantastic students and for a department, college, and university that cares so deeply about our educational mission. Many thanks to Prof. Gabriela Schlau-Cohen for the invitation to give a pchem seminar at MIT today. It was great to meet some of the faculty there, and also to see one of our lab alumna, Madi Scott!

Zach put together a fantastic first-presentation of his new SSTA measurements during the annealing of P3HT:PCBM blends, which he presented with exquisite clarity at ACS NORM today. Great job, Zach, and the culmination of a lot of hard work! Also, excellent presentation shirt.

Thanks to Prof Rob Berger for the invitation to present our nanocrystal results at ACS NORM this year. It has been an exciting physical chemistry session so far!

I had a great time remotely visiting UT Austin yesterday to give a pchem seminar. Many thanks to Prof. Sean Roberts for hosting my visit and to all the faculty who took the time to chat with me. There were lots of great questions from their students! I also had a chance to catch up with Kelly, who’s doing his postdoctoral work, building a new instrument with Sean and Carlos Baiz.

Many thanks to Prof. Christy Landes for hosting my visit to Rice University today. I had some excellent conversations with the faculty there about some new ideas and the great progress they are making on their projects in Houston, and it was a fantastic opportunity to share some of our recent work!

Congrats to James, who presented his in situ TA measurements during nanocrystal formation at the perovskite symposium at MRS. Thanks for doing a great job representing our lab group, James!
