Week 4!

Hello JSO!

Thanks for attending the week 4 meeting! If you weren’t able to make it, we missed you, but I hope winter term is going well for you! (If you ever would like to be taken off the JSO mailing list just let me know!) Below is a summary of the things we talked about at the meeting… Its quite a list!

1. Yujin Gakuen Science/Cultural Festival (March 7th) JSO will have a booth to run a game/activity. Below are a list of the ideas we came up with- I’m emailing them to Rita (the YG parent in charge of the festival- she will hopefully help us chose a game/activity that will best fit with their festival):

-Memory game (karuta)
-Origami
-Making Food
-Traditional Children’s Game (rhythm 4, yubisuma)
-Caligraphy (katakana, hiragana)
-hanafura
-Ring Toss

2. Video Game tournament (May 10th)- a group of us interested in running the video game will meet tomorrow at 1:00 in the Cultural Forum. This tournament will be a part of the Willamette Valley Music Festival (an annual music festival on campus). The tournament will be held in the EMU Taylor Lounge and be awesome! Below are a list of games that we are interested in playing tournament style:

-Smash Bros
-Double Dash
-Mario Kart
-Street Fighter
-Just Dance

3. Pizza/Trivia Fundraiser Night at Pegasus Pizza- This will happen Thursday of either week 6 or 7. We are going to put together a list of questions that we can format in a Jeopardy style game. Here are themes for the trivia questions. Please come up with 2 questions we can compile into the game by the next meeting! They can be hard or easy, funny or serious. Make sure either a Japanese exchange student or an American student may know the answer!

4. Spring movies series! Every Spring we have a movie night instead of our meeting. We choose a theme and choose 10 movies (1 for each week) to show publicly. Below is the list of themes we came up with. Please be thinking for next meeting what you would like to see as theme for this spring. We will vote on it next meeting!

Thank you for attending our meeting! Next meeting we will meet at 6:00, but then at around 6:20 we will go to the Japanese Diversity Forum in the EMU that JSO is co-sponsoring. There will be some food there, and a good discussion on the myth of homogeneity of Japanese and Americans. So I hope to see you next week! -Hana
