The article is the culmination of the “microviscosity” project. Essentially, the radical cage effect can be predicted if the microviscosity of the solution is measured. This is in stark contrast to using bulk viscosity (traditional analysis). Not only has this answered the decades old question of “Why is the radical cage effect different between solvents?” but it has allowed the Tyler lab to look at the whole project in a new light:
