Research Methods Learning goals

Yesterday, I talked to Pooria Manoochehri, who is a second year AAD student and he doing his terminal research project. His project is creating an art district in Eugene. This is a group work and include 5 group members. Everyone has very detailed mission to do. He used at least 4 methods to complete his project. In order to get information and learned from the some programs, Pooria goes through documents analysis, to show what is the art district and how they set it up. Interviews, for example he needs to check out the place which they want to performing their arts, to bring arts to people. Websites searching, site observations. And analyst other  programs. He spent a lot of time focus on an art organization in Dallas.

The research method Pooria is using can be divided into four different methods. Through talk with Pooria, I have developed some of my own learning goals for this class:

1.Before I talking with Pooria,I have no idea about what is the methods.  Through conversation with him, I have a basic understanding about research methods. By taking the course, I want to learn more in-depth study of various methods.

2.In the end of this term, I would like to know what the different between research project/ thesis and capstone. And which one I really interested in.

3.In order to have more time to preparing the research methods, in the end of the semester, I want to find out as much as possible in one direction or one topic, although it probably not the final topic, but I can combined with my summer internship to do some advance preparation.

4.To be honest, this course make me feel a lot of pressure, as an international student, I’m not good at academic research and writing, it’s like a gap between natives and me. I think I need to read some professional books and materials, also I should pay more time and efforts to learn. Lay the good foundation for the final research methods.
