“The Metro”: About Our Team and Team Reflection

Our team chose the name “The Metro” due to our hometown of Portland. We all came from high schools that are a part of the Metropolitan, or the “Metro” league for athletics, and we felt it would be fitting to pay tribute to our roots as well as incorporate a sports aspect into our team brand. The Metro has worked hard in putting together what we feel is a solid project to show how students like you are “living the dream” as student athletes, and we hope you enjoy.

KATIE BARRER: WRITER

I am a sophomore advertising major and an aspiring creative. I am a lover of typography (almost too much, considering dafont.com is my most viewed page) and the visual side of advertising. I am a born and raised Portlandian, and I feel like my roots inspire my overall creativity everyday. I love to paint, to be active outdoors in the sunshine, to play my guitar, and to cook copious amounts of Italian food. My goal is to have my work inspire people to find their own creativity, because everyone has that deep down. You can find my work at http://katherinebarrer.weebly.com

JACK GRAHAM: VIDEOGRAPHER

I am a sophomore currently working towards a major in advertising with a minor in business. Having grown in up in an age ruled by technology, I feel that the majority of my skills hinge on my ability to handle everything from writing a blog post to composing a full track on Garageband. Working as the one creating videos for my schools assemblies, and currently shooting music videos and promotional edits, my focus in the field of journalism stems from a love of visuals. My passions balance between making music and athletics, and have both defined my life. From performing live shows in front of crowds, to playing underneath the Friday night lights in high school, I have used my experiences to continually shape my writing.

BAYLEE NEWMAN: EDITOR

I am currently a sophomore at the University of Oregon. I am a journalism student pursuing a career in Public Relations. One day I dream to be the event coordinator for a major sports franchise or sports network. In my free time I enjoy working out, cooking, and watching SportsCenter on my lazy Sundays.

The Metro: Our Team Reflection

As a team, we wanted to create something that not only we are curious about, but something that our fellow students would also find interesting. We ultimately decided to seek out some of the hardest working and most talented students the university has in order to see just how they are “living the dream”, and looked towards U of O sports stars to fill this role. Our team had an amazing time getting to know so many student athletes over the last few weeks. We were lucky enough to work with the brother-sister duo Liz and Doug Brenner, who attended high school with two of our group members, who helped us experience opportunities such as touring the Hatfield-Dowlin football complex, a $68 million dollar project not open to the public, possible. Working with Doug and Liz as well as sitting down with other student athletes helped us to not only appreciate the young men and women who attend U of O to live out their dream as student athletes, but to also appreciate the exciting atmosphere that they create that makes U of O, U of O. It is safe to say that our team, The Metro, worked together seemingly. We learned that communication is key, as well as pulling our own weight to benefit the team as a whole. All in all we believe we have created a successful project due to our great efforts to work together efficiently and creatively.
