Field Guide to Fermentation

Here is my most recent treasure. I have been crafting away for the last couple months on a Field Guide to Fermentation. It was my attempt to capture some aspect of fermentation culture as it relates here in Oregon. I held interviews, took lots of photos, watched documentaries and overall expressed the deeper depths of my inner geek on all things fermented. It was amazing.

Saturday Transmedia Fan Art

Homework weekend. I thought that because of this, I could post an awesome ode to one of my favorite movies. Really amazing fan artwork.

Happy Saturday. I wish it were true, and I could see Bowie take on one of his best roles.  This poster was the beginning of the rumors that spiraled through the internet. Sigh. Maybe it will happen. Maybe it won’t. I’ll still love the movie either way.

REMIX Culture-Layers of Layers

Looking into a lot about remixes this weekend and of course the world of autotune and originality all come into play.

It is so interesting to see this video of T-Pain because I think we often take for granted that there are still artists underneath all the production.

I personally didn’t know if T-Pain could sing for real. I am not condoning necessarily the content of what he sings about, but his voice is something to recognized. Happy Sunday.

Anti-Social Network

The post makes a great point, though drifts to the extreme and really highlights the negative.  Its too the point and off the edge. My personal position on social media networking is centered around the value in connection at our virtual fingertips. That being said, I value human interaction and authentic relationships to be top priority in my own human experience. Rhyme with purpose. Brought to you by social art.

So the question lies, where does transmedia intersect within this context? Is transmedia supporting our inability to truly connect face to face? Or are we just taking certain platforms and twisting them around to meet superficial needs? How are we using these tools of communication? Effectively and ineffectively? That is for you to decide.

Learning Objectives

Learning Objectives

AAD550: Art In Society

  • To understand more fully the topics of transmedia, convergence and participatory culture. How cam these concepts can be useful when looking at the world through the lenses of an art administration professional?
  • To engage in discourse with my academic community in the extensive resource materials we have at our disposal. Broadening my scope for the vast amount of educational blog material, and other multimedia platforms that serve in my better understanding of how certain platforms reach certain audiences (including myself).
  • Beginning to further deepen the discussion about community art events and how they play a role on blurring the participation of audience vs. producer, and why this blurred line is so vital to the human experience.
  • Discussing the relationship between art and class, art and gender, art and race. This all functions within the realm of art in society and how these areas circulate around how art has been viewed historically, religiously, extc.
  • To further dive into my questioning: Is art everywhere? Who makes the call? Are we the powers of judging what art is good art and what is bad? Is it always up to the artist to determine their own self worth of their artwork? This type of questioning and critical thinking will be an important learning objective with my relationship to art in society as it will be essential to look at and evaluate all the aspects of how art lives within society’s walls.

Reflections

  • I am now able to fully immerse myself in transmedia applications and to find the common threads between applications and how they relate to an overarching theme or topic.
  • The nature of aesthetics and the value we place on art. These conversations of how our society looks at art within our culture and the relationship of inclusivity and exclusivity that is created when talking about art in society. These types conversations are essentials for art managers.
  • To fully utilize and organize my information via Diigo and Evernote. These programs are completely new to me. They have served as one of the most useful platforms I could have come across for my graduate degree. I will be able to save the information from readings we have done and utilize the notes that I have taken to refer back to throughout my time here.
  • I will never fully answer what is art. but be able to come at this question with more analysis on the political structure, the death to originality, the importance of public art and how it plays out in redefining communities for better or for worse.

AAD610: Media, Marketing and Communications I

  •  Would like more exposure to the blogging realm and how to use WordPress as a tool and resource for arts programming.
  • As someone who has been self employed through performing arts ventures, it would be critical in understanding the use of multimedia avenues and other ways to reach broader audiences through marketing and media.
  • Understanding design from an audience perspective. Having no formal training, it will be highly valuable to take these resources into praxis through hands on work through WordPress and brand awareness curriculum
  • Reinvesting my interest in understanding skills I don’t immediately excel at. It is a pattern of mine to often disregard new discoveries if they don’t come easily. Pushing the boundaries in this media class is being motivated and excited about polishing a new skill
  • Learning the basic concepts behind a multimedia marketing campaign that would work for art or cultural administration organizations.

Reflections

  • More in-depth analysis of Illustrator. How to create a logo from Illustrator and using such tools as the gridlines, opacity, vectorizing images, and pen tool. These features have allowed me to create finished pieces not only for illustrator.
  • Putting together a brand identity for a fake organization and creating repetition in marketing pieces through collateral
  • Struggling and loving it. This challenge was extremely humbling, but amazing to be able to connect with and accept that everything gets better over time.
  • Completing a complete marketing package that I can present to an organization when needing to display my Adobe Suite skill set.
  • Having a vested interest in design through real world application. I am no consumed my typography and CRAP technique. I am constantly looking at media and marketing differently and this would never have been the case if it wasn’t for this class.

Learning Starts Now

This video was a game changer for me. Welcome back to school. Welcome back to striving for roles, not goals.

I really hope that play is my center focus throughout graduate school and my time in this learning environment.

Heres to making this experience my playground.
