AAD 610 Comparative Technology – Eric Schiff
Week I
My idea for this course is to create an actual Comics website for my series of comics. I had the opportunity to submit my comics to the Register Guard in 2012. However, they did not get into print and I did not receive any official feedback. This was a great learning experience for me since I know I still have to work on my drawings, identify my stories and learn how to market my work appropriately. This page is an opportunity for me to explore what my interests are in the area of publishing my comics on the web, continue to expand on my skills with Illustrator, InDesign and Photoshop and get real feedback from real published comic artists. I plan to attend Linework NW – An Illustration and Comics Festival in Portland, Oregon April 18th & 19th. This event is free and open to the public and will be a smaller venue compared to Seattle’s ComicCon. I think it will be a great opportunity for me to continue the journey to learn how other artists work, how they are disciplined and how they continue on professionally. My end goal in 10 weeks is to have a 4-6 comic panels illustrated on large vellum paper, edited in Illustrator and have an official comic domain that represents me professionally. This is is starting point for me. I have always admired artists that work as cartoonists full-time and are doing it successfully.
Here is an example of a talented artist that has a very nice site.

ABOUT
Linework NW is an illustration and comics festival taking place in Portland, Oregon. Our inaugural event was held in April of 2014. Linework NW’s goal is to focus attention on the creators who continue to inject new energy and vitality into these venerable mediums that share so much in common, whether their work is to be found in comic books, original art, graphic novels, prints, or other forms. Drawing upon a wealth of talent from the Pacific Northwest and beyond, Linework NW seeks to cultivate a vibrant cultural experience for creators, readers, art lovers, and collectors alike.
Linework NW will take place on Saturday, April 18 and Sunday, April 19, 2015, at the Norse Hall in Portland, Oregon. Attendance is free and open to the public.
