Artifact #8: Remixing Culture

Creativity, Freedom, Culture, Passion, Uniqueness, Spirituality, Nature, Religious, History, Individuality

Reflection:

By reading the article from Lessig and creating this artifact, I was able to explore my thoughts about what it means to be an artist. I chose  ten words which I think can represent my understanding of artists.  I chose creativity, freedom, culture, passion, uniqueness, spirituality, nature, religious, history and individuality. I think these ten words can best represent an artist. In my opinion, to be an artist, people have to mix many things in order to produce an effective, comprehensive and meaningful solution to the audiences. I chose creativity as the first word to represent an artist because I think creativity is one of the most important factor toward art. I chose culture, spirituality, nature, religious and history to show that artists also means combination in different fields. I chose freedom, passion, uniqueness, and individuality to show some important characteristics of artists.

Before choosing those pictures, I started to think about the image of those ten words by my own and then chose the pictures on Google. I picked the similar image in my mind compared with the image on the website. During the creation process of this artifact, I experienced a problem of choosing pictures related to freedom and passion. To me, freedom and passion have a similar meaning which is expressing a person’s feelings and emotions.  I experienced a hard to pick the different images for these two words. However, after thinking about the inside of art and consider freedom and passion in art area, I started to identify the difference between these two words. In my opinion, as an artist, freedom means no limitations and restrictions during the creation process that an artist can express the idea in any forms that is possible. Passion to an artist focuses more on the attitude toward art and artifacts which represents a kind of power inside of an artist’s body.

Learning Goals in The Future:

In the future, I want to continually enhance my understanding about artists. I want to know more about how an artist produce an idea and create an artifact. Also, I want to gain more experience as an artist and track the whole creation process. I want to create a real artifact rather than just imagine to be and receive better understanding to see if I will choose some different words to represent an artist.
