Week 9 discussion

I think this week’s Ted talk “Laws that Choke Creativity” was very interesting. Lawrence Lessig talked three little stories to show his points. The one I had most impression with was the last one, which was the second remix video he showed. Jesus was dancing almost nakedly on the street and lip singing a very famous song. As this video showing, Lawrence talked about copyright issue, which was a very hot topic in resent years. His point was the technique itself is not the important part, rather about the idea or the way people using it (Lessig TED). I definitely can see why he was saying this because I am in this “high tech” world right now. Everyone can say things and communicate through Internet, and it’s harder and harder to protect copyrights. My opinion is that we should definitely protect copyrights, but we shouldn’t let it limits people’s creativity. Maybe remix is a kind of thing that against copyright, but I think it is a very great way to create new things based on old things, and it is not copying, it is actually re-creating.
