Matthew 22:1-4. Parable of the Wedding Banquet.

Explain what you think the following symbols represent:

King/Person: I believe that the King represents God and the person represents us has his children.

Son/ Servant: The Son represents new believers and followers of Christ and the Servant represents those who are called to bring people to Christ.

Invited Guests: are those who are invited into the kingdom of God

Wedding Banquet/Great Dinner/Dinner: Celebration of what is to come.

Parable:

  • what the kingdom of God was like
  • there are 2 invitations
    • the first one is: will you please come
    • the second one is: come
  • not attending would be “rebellion”
  • V.4 Instead of getting mad he sends out more invitations because people weren’t responding and ignoring the invite
  • V.5 But regardless they still paid no attention.
    • In Judaism the kings servants go in the name of the king so killing the servant is like killing the king.
    • Luke says that the king invited the poor, blind, beggars, etc.

God is inviting people to him but people reject Him. Go invited everyone (Luke) to the banquet (his kingdom). Those who respond to the king must change their lies. Though all are invited we cannot respond to God half-heartedly. Many are invited but only a few chose to come.
