A note from the curators

For our final J320 project, we decided to focus on a topic that we felt strongly about. Women negatively portrayed in various media is a pressing issue. Between unattainable beauty standards and sexual objectification, we know that women are bombarded with media representations everyday that can be hugely distasteful, but also damaging.

Women are not objects of desire.

Women are not flawless nor pore-less.

Women are human.

Please take a moment to review our deeper analyzation of women in the media through an ongoing Dove campaign. Dove, best known for selling deodorant and soap, has been quite successful in implementing a popular campaign that brings awareness to women’s health and body image.  The purpose of this campaign is to strengthen reflection of oneself and to feel real beauty as a “source of confidence.”

The aforementioned campaign that we will focus on is Dove’s “Real Beauty.”

Use the page tabs above to access video, commentary, and images.

We chose to analyze the campaign from multiple perspectives, both negative and positive.

All the best,
