As the year comes to a close, OFN is grateful for the participation of this year’s Traditional Arts Apprenticeship Program (TAAP) apprenticeship teams:

  • Beth’Ann Gipson with Sarah Thompson Moore (Cow Creek Band of Umpqua Tribe of Indians Basket Weaving)
  • Tetyana Horner with Tetyana Zelyanovska (Ukranian Weaving)
  • Gayle Oram with Patti Jo Meshnik (Norwegian Rosemåling)
  • Jayanthi Raman with Prekshita Jain (Nattuvangam, Rhythmic Structure of Bharatha Natyam Classical Indian Dance)
  • Arturo Zavala with Jason Villa (Mariachi Trumpet and Musicianship)

All teams have completed their projects and required public presentations. Videos sharing the stories and projects of 2024 awardees will be shared in the coming months.

“More than any other project or career opportunity grant, or award, this is the most meaningful as an acknowledgement – recognition of an artist’s knowledge and experience in his/her field of practice.  So thank you OFN on behalf of all TAAP recipients.” -Jayanthi Raman

The Traditional Arts Apprenticeship Program is an annual program that offers around $3,500 to Oregon culture bearers to aid in the teaching of their traditional art to an apprentice from their same cultural community. Awardees organize and complete their own apprenticeship project and showcase their work via a capstone performance.

Watch for announcements of the 2025 TAAP cohort in January.  Visit the OFN website if you are interested in learning more about the TAAP program.

This program is funded by grants from the National Endowment for the Arts (NEA) and the Oregon Arts Commission.
