TrackTown USA is Back

The 2012 Olympic Trials are underway in Eugene…

And meanwhile UO faculty in the Lundquist College of Business recently completed a research project exploring the resurgence of the city’s TrackTown USA brand. “Rekindling the Flame: Processes of Identity Resurrection” will be published in upcoming edition of the Academy of Management Journal. The project examines how the 2008 Olympic Trials’ return to Eugene revitalized the TrackTown USA identity that was born in the early 1970s (shortly after the 1972 Olympic Trials). Read more.

The paper is authored by Jennifer Howard-Grenville, professor of management; Matthew Metzger, UO doctoral student and Alan Meyer, Charles H. Lundquist professor emeritus of management (who happened to earn his Ph.D. at UC Berkeley – yet another UO Northern California Connection!).

Visit TrackTown USA to follow the athletes in action this week.

Congratulations to Ashton Eaton who broke Roman Sebrle’s world record in the decathlon on Saturday, June 23rd (read more)!
