Normally on the last day of class the ‘My Visual Story’ comic book projects would be showcased to the campus community in an open tabling event. Along with so much else the current COVID-19 situation made this celebration not possible this year, as such the comic book projects are being showcased online.
And for more information about what this comic book project was about please see the guidelines here: My Visual Story Comic Project Guidelines 2020 (PDF File)
The links below take you to each individual student’s showcase page that includes a short introduction write up about their project, a more in-depth YouTube video showcasing the author/artist, and digital versions of the comic books.
Let’s not beat around the bush, it has been a challenging year beyond what we could have imagined. I have personally doubted the effectiveness and reasoning for this class many times throughout all the “pivots” forced on us and all the mixed messaging sent to us from those above. Even though I tried to be as connected with the progress of the students throughout the term, the sitting in place six feet apart, the masks, and the “HyFlex” insanity of trying to work with students remote and in the classroom all contributed to a disconnect. It was a disconnect that contributed to my questioning my purpose as an instructor. But then the final projects started to roll in. They took my breath away. The level of thought, creativity, and worldliness of the work below is incredible. I am proud to have been part of this experience, thank you all.

Summer has come and passed
The innocent can never last
Wake me up when September ends
Ring out the bells again
Like we did when spring began
Wake me up when September ends…
