Week One Class Meetings Debrief and Looking Forward

Hi everyone!

Been a busy and fun week!  We enjoyed meeting everyone Monday and Tuesday.  Remember that Monday is considered an out of class “academic” event that counts towards your “Socialization” achievement and Tuesday was the required regular class that counts towards your “Attendance” achievement.

From Robert:  I want to highlight that this FIG class is meant to be both intellectually challenging and creatively fun.  If at any time you have questions or concerns please reach out to me and Mazzy.  We are here to help you all through your first term at college.  I know we threw a good amount at you all with the class structure and intro stuff, but I hope the main takeaway for everyone is that it is an easy structure to follow and our class has these four main focus areas:

  1. Making a three-page comic (due Nov 18th),
  2. Socializing and forming a college cohort within our FIG group,
  3. Helping everyone adjust to the college experience, and
  4. Having fun!!!

From Mazzy:  Please remember to schedule and attend 1-on-1 meetings in the coming weeks, and keep an eye out for social activities over this weekend! Once I have sufficient responses to the google form survey I will schedule something that everyone can enjoy 😄.   And please don’t hesitate to reach out to me if you have any questions/comments/concerns! I gave y’all my number cause I want you to use it! Thank you 😄

Welcome and Introduction: 2022 My Visual Story

Hi everyone!

Welcome to the 2022 UO’s First-Year College Connections course, My Visual Story: Comics and Personal Storytelling.

We are excited about working with you all this fall term!   We are looking forward to  exploring ways in which our College Connections course connects ENG 280: Introduction to Comic Studies and your other college course work at the UO, and how these courses will also help introduce you to the rich academic offerings the UO has to offer.

For our College Connections course we will be meeting Tuesdays, 2:00pm-3:20pm (check your DuckWeb account for the most up to date room location).

And we do have a Canvas site open for this course so you can easily find a link to this site since all of your information will be posted here on this blog.   We use this blog site so we can build on the information from previous years to make this a more robust educational experience that connects you what previous cohorts have done, just like you!

See these sections of this site:

Please check back to this site for more updates as the terms progresses!

Best,

Robert and Mazzy!
