Hi,

First week of college classes is almost done!

It was an excellent first My Visual Story class, and know we ‘joked’ a lot about those presentations will be the most we will present all term, and mostly that is very true!  On a serious note, with all that we talked about Monday we know there was A LOT of information put forward so if you have questions about any parts of the FIG please let us know.

Remember that all the course documents and information is posted in the Resources section of this site (https://blogs.uoregon.edu/myvisualstory/resources-2/2021-2/).

For next Monday’s (Oct. 4th) class Giovanna will present on what the UO Libraries has to offer, we will then be turning over most of the class to studio time and getting you all going on your comic story ideas.  Here is the Journal for this week:

And lastly keep an eye out for the message from Giovanna about this week’s social event!

Best,

Robert and Giovanna

Welcome and Introduction: 2021 My Visual Story

student drawing on tablet deviceWelcome to the 2021 UO’s First-Year College Connections course, My Visual Story: Comics and Personal Storytelling.

In this course we will be exploring the ways in which artists and authors tell our personal and social narratives. And we will step into the artists’ shoes to create our own artistic social and personal stories in comic book form.

We are excited about the ways in which we will be exploring how our College Connections course connects ENG 280: Introduction to Comic Studies and ART 101 Understanding Contemporary Art, and how these courses will also help introduce you to the rich academic offerings the UO has to offer.

And reminder that your ART 101 class has been moved to be asynchronous. You will probably get a notification about the news this week if you haven’t already. You will not be dropped from the class, but the CRN will change. The class will be entirely online but will not have a set meeting time. This means that you get to work on ART 101 at your own schedule! This will hopefully ease the load and stress you will be having this term. Some of you may be hesitant to do online, but I would say don’t knock it ’til you try it.

For our College Connections course we will be meeting in the classroom Mondays, 3:00pm-4:20pm (check your DuckWeb account for the most up to date room location).

And we do have a Canvas site open for this course, but note that most of your information will be posted here on this blog. This is so we can build on the information from previous years to make this a more robust educational experience that connects you what other cohorts have done just like you!

See these sections of this site:

Please check back to this site for more updates as the terms progresses!

Best,

Robert and Giovanna!
