Hi,

Front doors at Museum of Art UO

Meet us at these front doors!

For our second class meeting this upcoming Friday (Oct. 5th) we will be focusing on the Common Reading, Thi Bui’s The Best We Could Do and we will be meeting at the UO Museum of Art.  Please meet us in front of the Museum at noon next Friday (Oct. 5th).  See: https://jsma.uoregon.edu/location-and-hours

For this class please bring in:

  1. Your first page of Discussion Journal responses (a PDF copy of this can be found in the Resources section of this course site),
  2. An attitude ready to discuss the graphic novel,
  3. An attitude ready to explore and talk about the Museum’s exhibits!

You can also see the Thi Bui ’s The Best We Could Do: A Teaching Guide  for more details about the graphic novel.

And below is the welcome video by Thi Bui produced specifically for the UO community, please watch it and use it to help inform our discussion this Friday.

See everyone Friday!

Best,

Robert

First Class: Follow Ups

Below are some quick follow ups from our first class meeting last Friday.  As I noted in the email I sent that was a wonderful class, and I am very excited about the energy and interest everyone is bringing to this class!  Very much looking forward to the term!

Follow ups:

  1. Savannah was talking about the Fun Home musical, which I found out is actually playing in town at the Oregon Contemporary Theatre: https://www.octheatre.org/funhome.  We have a pretty small window to see this since it closes Oct. 13th, but I would be interested to attend a production the weekend of Oct. 5th(Fri evening 7:30pm), or 6th (Sat evening 7:30pm), or 7th (Sunday 2:00pm matinee). If we have a group of 10 or more interested we may be able to get a group discount.  So, if you are interested please let me know!
  2. Remember that this is the main course site and all course information will be posted here, see especially the Resources section.  (And don’t forget providing me resource links you find that are relevant to the class will count towards your Resources Librarian achievement!)
  3. For your “achievements” we will help you all track your progress.  This goes a bit to Ceriah’s question about who decides the achievement is reached.  I plan to work up a tracking form for each of you soon.  Your individual form will be sent to you at various times during the term to see where your achievement progress is at.  As such we will not dump on you at the very end of the term your standing in the class, we will give you updates multiple times during the term so you know your progress and can help us fill in any missing achievements we may not know about.

Any questions? Please email me!

Best,

Robert
