Hopefully by now most of us have seen this great documentary about editing. For those of us who haven’t or don’t remember how useful it is, watch it again and come back ready to take on Winter term with a renewed sense of spirit and vigor.

Here are the top 10 things to remember as an editor.

10. Why One Frame Counts– The human eye is an amazing tool. It can detect even the slightest imperfection in flow and continuity. One frame out of place can stop the momentum and ruin a sequence.

2. Many times editing is about when not to cut– Don’t be afraid of the silence. Let a shot go long if it has purpose. Doing this allows the audience to experience the location, the person or the moment more deeply.

1. Stay in the moment and be open to it.- You’ve got to stay agile enough to move with the rhythm of the moment. Use that energy to create the film you didn’t know you had in you.
