Organization Questions

1. What is your organization or company? Give background history including by whom, when, and why it was founded. 

ArtsCity Eugene creates opportunities for artists by offering business support and a collaborative community. This start-up organization was founded in 2016 with the goal of nurturing the culture and economy of Eugene by providing opportunities for artists. ArtCity envisions Eugene as the most vibrant and culturally rich city between San Francisco and Seattle. They strive to do this by creating a collaborative arts community that will inspire activity, growth and opportunity. ArtCity was founded by artists, arts leaders, and forward-thinking citizens of the Greater Eugene Area working together to create a platform for multidisciplinary artists to ignite culture, economy, and community.

2. What do they do or make? Describe the products and services and what makes them unique. 

In a response to the need of artists living and working in Eugene, ArtCity was developed to create an artist community. This involves salon-style artist studios that are affordable and foster collaborative and supportive art-making. They provide professional development of artists by creating new opportunities to develop and share art.

3. Describe the culture of the organization or company. What is the work environment like – the atmosphere? What is the building like – exterior/interior, architecture, fittings and furniture? How do the employees work together? What are the jobs and roles of individuals? How does management treat them?

The ArtCity advisory and action team is composed of artists, arts leaders, and forward-thinking citizens of the Eugene and the surrounding area. The organization was co-founded by two artists with experience in arts administration. The first meeting was held last spring, and I’m not sure what the physical building looks like or if it even exists yet. This is a small organization with 12 employees/board members and is looking to expand and partner with other community organizations.

4. Who is the targeted audience? What are their demographics? (Age, gender, income level, where they live, own or rent, etc.)

ArtCity is targeted towards emerging visual artists as well as established professionals who are looking for studio space. This is also geared towards the general public in getting them to engage and appreciate the arts in their local community. So the goal is to involve everyone in the arts and attract people from other regions as well.

5. What is the organization or company mission statement? 

ArtCity creates opportunities for artists of all disciplines to interact with creative peers, inspire professional growth, collaborate, engage the public, and participate in Eugene’s burgeoning creative community. Taken from the ArtCity website.
