LMS Review Process

2014 Winter & Spring Term Pilots

The Learning Management System (LMS) committee met on March 5 to review the feedback we received from faculty across the campus on the various platforms under consideration.  Several faculty compared key features across all five platforms.  In addition to this testing, we reviewed important technical considerations with staff from Information Services, e.g. Banner integration, hosting options, security, etc.

Based on this information, the committee has identified two platforms to test in courses during spring term:  Canvas and Sakai.  All platforms, including Blackboard, ObaVerse, Desire to Learn, Canvas and Sakai are still under consideration until a final decision is made.

A group of faculty have  volunteered to teach with Canvas and Sakai and provide the committee with additional feedback via surveys, focus groups and usability studies.

The committee is on schedule to make a final recommendation to Academic Affairs by the end of the academic year.
