I am currently a senior at the University of Oregon majoring in journalism and public relations with a minor in music. I hope to one day become a public relations manager or spokesperson for a non-profit or company. I became involved in the Miss America Organization in 2013 when I won the title of Miss University of Oregon 2013. I then went on to compete at Miss Oregon 2013 where I was first runner up. As the recently crowned Miss Douglas County 2014 I will once again compete for the job of Miss Oregon in June 2014. My interest in body image within pageants stems from my own personal battle with body image and health. I was obese as a child and had to work very hard to improve my eating and exercising habits in order to become healthy. Because of my battle with obesity, I have chosen to advocate for healthy eating and exercise with my Miss Douglas County platform “Take Back Your Health! Fighting Obesity Through Nutrition and Exercise.”
