REFLECTION:

The examination and contemplation of the terms creativity and spirituality, as well as the consideration about the source of creativity allowed for a successful execution of at least two of the learning objectives that inspired this unit. Through the influence of Grey, I concluded that spirituality shares many attributes of religion, but that they are in fact different. It is the integration of spirituality and creativity and therefore art that makes this unit so integral. The conclusion of this particular writing sample of mine effectively delves into the goal to examine spirituality as a generative force and a well spring for creativity, which was a primary learning objective for this unit. I wrote “. The reason comes from the artist or creator first, but I believe it stems further than that; it stems from a connection to the ethereal or transcendent, and thus becomes meaningful and powerful. Grey says, ‘meaning in art is the transmission and reception of symbolic density,’ (Grey, 104) and I think this describes well the process of creativity, whose source lays in the realm of the spiritual, whatever that means to the particular artist.”

FOR THE FUTURE:

My future learning  goals are a little personal. As a singer and artist and future music educator, I feel obligated to impart something profound to my audiences via my art, which is singing. I would like to spend some more time exploring the spiritual aspects of creativity, and the implications that the incorporation of spirituality can have on creativity and art.
