Assignment 7 – Multimedia Character Study Proposal

Story Pitch

Subject: I want to write a story on Bob Walling and Babu Shoes

Theme: I would like to shed a light on the process of shoemaking and the local man who is taking on apprentices to spread his knowledge of this craft in an age where hand crafted wares are fading away.

Angle: I plan to focus on Bob, the owner of Babu shoes and his background in shoemaking and the reason behind starting Babu shoes.

Story: I will tell the story by interviewing Bob and documenting the process of making a pair of shoes.

What kind of story: I want this to be an informative piece as well as educational.

Scenes:

1: Interview shot of Bob in his work space to establish the person this story is about.

2: A sweeping closeup shot of the tools, materials, and workspace to show the work area and the tools and materials that shoes are made from.

3: Action shot of Bob working on a pair of shoes to show his skillfulness in making shoes and the knowledge that he wants to hand down to others.

4: A shot of the shoe shop area to show the final product of Bob as well as the students who have work to sell.

5: Outside shot of the shop, which is also his home to show that the shoemaking process does not have to be an industrialized process shipped overseas.

Sources:

Bob will be my main source as well as his son who has learned from his father.  Also the apprentices that work under Bob.

Market:  I’d like to spread the word of this local business and educate people who want to know about the lost art of shoemaking
