  • Target grade(s): 5th grade
Prior Knowledge:

  1. Ability to identify and apply five elements of narratives in writing
  2. Ability to demonstrate the idea of modularity through evaluating the work on Scratch
  3. Basic understanding of pragmatic using of modularity in problem solving from their own experience
  • Explanation of the rationale: we develop the instructional unit by analyzing the framework of Modularity, which is one of the computer science concept, and the standards of narrative writing to 5th graders. 5th graders should know how to apply the five elements of narrative writing on their prompt-based stories.   
  • Key project: From drawing to writing and reviewing. Students will convert their drawing to narrative writing according to the five elements of narrative. They will do peer-review for enhancing each other’s work and grade the peers’ writing according to the rubric.
  • Formative assessment: peer-review & peer-grading of narrative writing
