Welcome
Hello!
Welcome to our blog! We are the team iDucking.
The ancients used basic tools such as paper and pen to broaden the boundaries of thoughts. With the changes of time, we hold more complex tools like science and technology in the 21st century. In fact, what remains unchanged from ancient times to the present is how we adapt computational thinking skills to perceive the world. Technology makes our thinking more diversified, visual, and compatible.
Mission Statement
Our project focuses on creating comprehensive and creative lessons for 5th graders to learn modularity, which is one of the important parts in computational thinking. We design the curriculum according to the K-12 computer science framework and 5th-grade writing standards, so teachers and 5th graders can take our project as a learning resource. Through teaching the five elements of narrative writing, we integrate the concept of modularity into lessons by using the Scratch as a gateway for students to explore the idea that small components can compose a big project. We teach students with video tutorials, lecturing, and enriched in-class activities, which inspire students’ interests and improve their engagement. After learning through the 5 hours lessons with practice, students will be able to apply the framework of narrative writing by programming a story on the Scratch based on their understanding of the five elements of narrative; Students will also master the idea of modularity through utilizing it as a problem-solving mindset to divide the whole story into smaller elements. Our lessons are helpful for building up students’ computational thinking, enhancing their writing skills, and facilitating their future problem-solving progress through teaching modularity. Most importantly, we are aiming at preparing students for approaching new information and new problems in the technology era.
