The section 12 social cohesion principles of the Certificate of Sustainability below overlap the 22@ guidelines for 10% min. social housing, social services, social space (open space) and adds other indicators of ¨social mix¨ as:

  • income
  • culture  (ex. generation of family citizenship)
  • age
  • profession (ex. highest degree achieved)

Salvador also argues that to ensure this social diversity in cities we must guarantee access to all city dwellers to the basic necesities of health, housing, work, education and culture, and garantee the equality of opportunities to a levels.

A question for us is how this would translate to a society like Portland in the more capitalistic, calvanistic and neo-liberal USA. For example do cost accessible third-spaces become our form of social space?
