Coutant Final Follow Up

Pers1FinalCoutant3 Coutant1 MakerRenderProto2 FinalPinupMy skyscraper focuses on a makerspace community which I believe has a clear direction to create a proper environment to encourage creation. However since the final I have narrowed the vision down to not just encourage a makerspace community, but to create an environment which encourages the invitation of new makers who want to explore pushing boundaries.

Unfortunately I didn’t develop the ground connection of the skyscraper as much as I would have liked. The ground connection of the skyscraper is one of the most interesting parts of any skyscraper to me. I believe I can develop to be one of the more visionary parts of my skyscraper. I am often underwhelmed by a skyscraper’s entrance have a poor connection to their surroundings where they have the feeling in or out as opposed to in and out.

I was not able to get Ladybug working for grasshopper, but I oriented outdoor spaces and atrium openings to accommodate southern lighting. Over the break I would like to get Ladybug working so that I can explore various designs for solar response.

There is clear circulation throughout the building, but I would like to explore more diverse ways of movement through the building which might better encourage collaboration.

There was no emotional experience expressed in my presentation other than possibly the main entry rendering. I named my project the Emerald tower because it connects to the Emerald Valley. I have heard Portland as being called the next Silicon Valley and I thought it would be interesting to relate the two together.

I plan to completely develop my skyscraper over winter break to enter into the eVOLO competition. This term is the first time I have really attempted to learn Rhino and Grasshopper and throughout the term I have learned so much and I have become very comfortable in both. I plan on using them to my full capabilities, which continue to grow, in order to make the presentation of my ideas, what I would consider, eVOLO skyscraper competition worthy.
