After watching the advertisement for Sun-Maid raisins, I had begun to form a lot more questions about the product. For example, is the great central valley of California really that lush and green as the commercial claims it to be? Are the raisins only made with sun? Who is this animated girl they use to represent their product, and why does she put on sunglasses after she was put on the red carpet at night, when clearly those sunglasses would have been more useful in that sunny vineyard scene?

Which celebrity would you want to meet in the afterlife?

Have you ever been proposed with the question, which celebrity would you want to meet in the afterlife? Most would choose their favorite idols or actor/actresses, but my choice would be somebody who in today’s society wouldn’t be considered a celebrity by those who hold their faith close to their hearts, or choose to ignore his work in the sciences. The Steel Horse and his Master (Thoreau)

On page 82 of Thoreau’s book “Walden Civil Disobedience”, he writes a passage about the train that regularly passes by his home near Walden Pond. He begins by comparing the passing of the train to a sunrise. Usually, a sunrise is seen as something glorious, such as the start of a new day, or hope for the future. What he means by this is that a sunrise is common, much like the roaring train that disturbs his quiet solitude almost every morning. It’s part of his daily ritual to see the sun rise and watch the train haul by with a cargo of passengers and merchandise.

(Green Movement’s Commercial “Onslaughter”)

The first commercial is specifically for the product “Dove”. I’m sure most of you are aware of what that product is, but for those of you who don’t, Dove is a corporation that sells to the beauty industry. They make shampoos, soaps, and all that jazz. Now, assuming you’ve watched the first commercial, then it’s pretty obvious what Dove was trying to get across. They even said it at the very end when the little redhead girl was crossing the street to go to school. They stated:

“Talk to your daughter before the beauty industry does.”
