MCMENAMINS FAMILY & FRIENDS NIGHT A HUGE SUCCESS

The McMenamins Family and Friends Night to benefit Early Childhood CARES was a huge success. Early Childhood CARES raised nearly $1,500, and plans to use the funds to purchase specialized equipment for children and host trainings and workshops for parents. Our sincere thanks to McMenamins High Street Brewery & Cafe for hosting this fun event for Early Childhood  CARES, and to all our families, community partners and friends who attended!

JUNE 24-AUGUST 15: SUMMER READING SPOTS

Summer Reading Spots is a program designed to help young children boost their literacy and social skills. Each child will receive a book to take home. The program will run from June 24 through August 15. The Springfield sites will meet Monday through Thursday from 1 to 2 p.m. at the following locations: Willamalane Park Swim Center (276 G St.), Meadow Park (851 Mill St.) and Guy Lee Elementary (755 Harlow Rd.). In Eugene, the group will meet Tuesday through Thursday from 1 to 2 p.m. at Petersen Park (870 Berntzen Rd.).

AUGUST 1: AN EVENING AT THE CHATEAU FUNDRAISER

The Arc Lane County will host its annual fundraiser, An Evening at the Chateau, on Thurs., Aug. 1 at 4:30 p.m. at Chateau Lorane Vineyard, located at 27415 Siuslaw River Rd. in Lorane. The cost is $100 per ticket. For information, call Julianne Harris at 541-343-5256 ext. 110.

AUGUST 1: TOWN HALL MEETING

There will be a Town Hall Meeting with Sen. Chris Edwards, Rep. Val Hoyle and Rep. Nancy Nathanson on Thurs., Aug. 1 from 6 to 7:30 p.m. in the cafeteria of Prairie Mountain School located at 5305 Royal Ave. in Eugene. Come hear their thoughts about the 77th Legislative Session, and share your concerns.

AUGUST 2: MOVIE IN THE PARK

The City of Eugene Movies in the Park will feature Honey, I Shrunk the Kids (PG) on Fri., Aug. 2 at 9 p.m. at Willakenzie Park, located at 1725 Best Ln. in Eugene. Free smoothies will be provided by Northwest Community Credit Union’s fun Bicycle Blender. All movies are free and family-friendly. Families need to bring blankets, chairs and picnics. No glass containers, pets, smoking or alcohol allowed. Show times subject to change and weather dependent.

AUGUST 2: FIRST FRIDAY FAMILY FUN NIGHT

The City of Eugene will host First Friday Family Fun Night from 5:30 to 7 p.m. on Fri., Aug. 2 at the Petersen Barn Community Center, 870 Berntzen Rd., Eugene. This evening of fun includes dinner, games, crafts and live entertainment. Dinner is served until 6:30 pm. This is a free, drop-in program; no registration required. AUGUST 3: SATURDAY RESPITE PROGRAM

The Arc Lane County will offer its Saturday Respite Program on Sat., Aug. 3 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at 4181 E St., Springfield. This is a low- cost program the Arc Lane County provides to families the first Saturday of each month. The cost is $10 per day per child with disability and $5 per day for siblings. Families must email Misty Lyster or call 541-206-7693 as soon as possible to confirm space availability and reserve a spot for their child.

AUGUST 3: MOVIE IN THE PARK

The City of Eugene Movies in the Park will feature Pee Wee’s Big Adventure (PG) on Sat., Aug. 3 at 9 p.m. at Amazon Park, located at 2600 Hilyard St. in Eugene. All movies are free and family-friendly. Families need to bring blankets, chairs and picnics. No glass containers, pets, smoking or alcohol allowed. Show times subject to change and weather dependent.

AUGUST 3: BLOCK PARTY AT OAKWAY LANDING

There will be a Block Party at Oakway Landing on Sat., Aug. 3 from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. between Oakway Fitness and Emerald Lanes bowling alley. There will be a huge slide and bounce house for kids. All activities are free.

AUGUST 3-4: LET’S GO CAMPING

The Oregon Parks and Recreation Department will host Let’s Go Camping on Sat., Aug. 3 starting at 10 a.m. through noon Sun., Aug. 4 at Jessie M. Honeyman State Park, 84505 Hwy. 101 S., Florence. This is a weekend camping event for novices. Tents, sleeping bags and mattress pads will be provided. There will be hands-on lessons, nature hikes and fun family activities. The cost  is $30. AUGUST 6-11: KING MIDAS & THE GOLDEN TOUCH

Mad Duckling Children’s Theatre will present King Midas & the Golden Touch starting Tues., Aug. 6 and running through Sun., Aug. 11. Show time is at 11 a.m. at Amazon Park, 2700 Hilyard St., Eugene. Admission is $5; children age three and under are free.

AUGUST 7: ALL-COMER TRACK MEET FOR KIDS

The Oregon Track Club (OTC) will host an All-Comer Track Meet for kids ages one to 12 years on Wed., Aug. 7 at 5 p.m. at Hayward Field, 1580 E. 15th Ave., Eugene. These are low-key meets that offer a variety of events for kids to compete with others their age. Cost is $3 per athlete for three events. To learn more, visit OTC All-Comers.

AUGUST 8-11: SCANDINAVIAN FESTIVAL

The Scandinavian Festival will be held Thurs., Aug. 8 through Sun., Aug. 11 in downtown Junction City.  There will be dancing, music, food and crafts at this free event.

AUGUST 9-SUMMER SERVICES END

AUGUST 14-SEPTEMBER 10: ESCRIP BACK TO SCHOOL PROGRAM

Early Childhood CARES will earn 10% of eScrip purchases Aug. 14 through Sept. 10! It doesn’t cost anything to participate, and eScrip merchants will donate a percentage of every purchase to Early Childhood CARES. To enroll, visit eScrip. Designate “EC CARES” (group number 11129266) as the agency you want to support. Register the cards you use to shop with regularly (e.g., credit cards and membership cards, like the Safeway Club card). Shop at Safeway, and purchase products with participating tags. And, voila! You’ve earned money for Early Childhood CARES.

AUGUST 16: MOVIE IN THE PARK

The City of Eugene Movies in the Park will feature Who Framed Roger Rabbit? (PG) on Fri., Aug. 16 at 9 p.m. at Churchill Park, located at the intersection of Bailey Hill Road and West 18th Avenue in Eugene. All movies are free and family-friendly. Families need to bring blankets, chairs and picnics. No glass containers, pets, smoking or alcohol allowed. Show times subject to change and weather dependent.

AUGUST 16: SUMMER BEACH PARTY

The City of Eugene Adaptive Recreation will host a Summer Beach Party for individual with disabilities and their families and friends on Fri., Aug. 16 from 6 to 8 p.m. at Amazon Pool, located at 2600 Hilyard St. The cost is $5 per person or $20 per family of 5+. AUGUST 16-18: HERITAGE FAIR

The Western Oregon Exposition Heritage Fair and Timber Show will take place Fri., Aug. 16 through  Sun., Aug. 18 at the Western Oregon Exposition Fairgrounds, 2000 N. Douglas Ave., Cottage Grove.  This fun family fair will feature a lumberjack competition, kids games and entertainment. The cost is $3 for adults; children ages 12 and under are free.

AUGUST 17-18: AEROBEEZ MONSTER FEST 2013

The Aerobeez Monster Fest 2013 will take place Sat., Aug. 17 and Sun., Aug. 18 from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. at Carl Henson Air Field, 92560 Alvadore Rd., Junction City. Come see these giant scale remote-controlled airplanes fly and their pilots.

AUGUST 18: JAZZY SUMMER NIGHT FUNDRAISER

The Northwest Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports Network, Inc., will host a Jazzy Summer Night Wine Tasting Fundraiser on Sun., Aug. 18 from 6 to 9 p.m. at Sweet Cheeks Winery, located at 27007 Briggs Hill Rd. in Eugene. The cost is $18; tickets can be purchased online.

AUGUST 21: THE ARC FAMILY CARNIVAL

The Arc Lane County and Families Connected will host  a free family carnival on Wed., Aug. 21 from 4 to 7 p.m.  in the back parking lot at 4181 E St. in Springfield. There will be a barbeque, games, prizes and lots of activities for everyone. RSVP by calling 541-343-5256.

AUGUST 22-25: KINDTREE – AUTISM ROCKS RETREAT

The KindTree – Austism Rocks Retreat is scheduled for Aug. 22 through Aug. 25 at Camp Baker at Siltcoos Lake. The retreat is designed for people who experience autism and their parents and caregivers. The cost is $115 for person with autism and $40 for each family member/caregiver, with a $250 group maximum. AUGUST 23: MOVIE IN THE PARK (SPANISH)

The City of Eugene Movies in the Park will feature Hotel Transylvania (Spanish) (PG) on Fri., Aug. 23 at 9 p.m. at Petersen Barn Park, located at 870 Berntzen Rd. in Eugene. All movies are free and family-friendly. Families need to bring blankets, chairs and picnics. No glass containers, pets, smoking or alcohol allowed. AUGUST 24: SAND SCULPTING CLINIC

Learn how to sand sculpt from the pros! There will be a Sand Sculpting Clinic on Sat., Aug. 24 from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. at Sand Master Park, 5351 Hwy. 101, Florence. Everyone is welcome to participate in this free event.

AUGUST 25: FAMILY NATURE DISCOVERY DAY

The Cascades Raptor Center will host a Family Nature Discovery Day on Sun., Aug. 25 from noon until 4 p.m. at 32275 Fox Hollow Rd., Eugene. The theme for the Aug. event is “All About Owls.” The cost is general admission plus a $2 activity fee for kids to participate in special themes and activities.

SEPTEMBER 12: FALL SERVICES START
