Summer Reading Spots is a program designed to help young children boost their literacy and social skills. Each child will receive a book to take home. The program will run from June 24 through August 15. The Springfield sites will meet Monday through Thursday from 1 to 2 p.m. at the following locations: Willamalane Park Swim Center (276 G St.), Meadow Park (851 Mill St.) and Guy Lee Elementary (755 Harlow Rd.). In Eugene, the group will meet Tuesday through Thursday from 1 to 2 p.m. at Petersen Park (870 Berntzen Rd.).
The city of Creswell will host a Fourth of July Celebration on Thurs., July 4 at Harry Holt Memorial Park, 390 B St. There will be a parade, food and fireworks.
Florence will also host a free Independence Day Celebration on Thurs., July 4, starting at 10 a.m. in Old Town, Florence. The event will feature live outdoor music, fireworks over the river, watermelon and pie-eating contests, dog parade and open-air market.
The City of Eugene will host First Friday Family Fun Night from 5:30 to 7 p.m. on Fri., July 5 at the Petersen Barn Community Center, 870 Berntzen Rd., Eugene. This evening of fun includes dinner, games, crafts and live entertainment. Dinner is served until 6:30 pm. This is a free, drop-in program; no registration required. Bridgeway House, a non-profit organization that helps families affected by autism and other disabilities, will host a Sibling Outdoor Camp July 8-12 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. This is a day camp for children of all ages who have a sibling on the autism spectrum, and it’s a great opportunity for siblings to build friendships with peers who share similar family experiences. The Oregon Country Fair will run Fri., July 12 through Sun., July 14 off Hwy. 126 in Veneta. The fair features entertainment, food, handmade crafts and educational displays. Visit the Oregon Country Fair to learn more about ticket prices and schedule information.
The Arc Lane County will offer its Saturday Respite Program on Sat., July 13 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at 4181 E St., Springfield. This is a low-cost program the Arc Lane County provides to families the first Saturday of each month. The cost is $10 per day per child with disability and $5 per day for siblings. Families must email Misty Lyster or call 541-206-7693 as soon as possible to confirm space availability and reserve a spot for their child.
The Oregon Bach Festival (OBF) will present Pinocchio on Sat., July 13 at 10 a.m. at the Soreng Theater located at One Eugene Center in Eugene. The Early Childhood CARES Parent Support Group will meet on Tues., July 16 and July 30 from 6:30 to 8 p.m. in room 145 of the Clinical Services Building at the University of Oregon, 901 E. 18th Ave., Eugene. Come meet other parents and share in the joys and challenges of raising children with special needs. Childcare will be provided for qualified Early Childhood CARES children and their siblings. Please call 541-346-2578 to register and arrange your childcare needs by Fri., July 12. Parents must register even if they do not need childcare. If fewer than five parents are registered, the support group will be cancelled.
There will be a Touch a Truck event on Wed., July 17 from 5 to 7:30 p.m. at Petersen Barn Community Center, 870 Berntzen Rd., Eugene. Kids will be able to climb into a fire engine, cement truck, backhoe, dump truck, LTD bus, 18-wheeler and more. The admission is free. Food will be available for purchase.
The Child Development and Rehabilitation Center (CDRC) and The Arc Lane County will host a six-week Sibshop class. The class is designed for brothers and sisters (ages six through ten) who have a sibling with a developmental disability. Sibshop follows a set curriculum that allows brothers and sisters to express their feelings and have fun. The group will meet starting Thurs., July 18 through Aug. 22 from 5 to 6:30 p.m. in room 157 of the Clinical Services Building on the University of Oregon campus, 901 E. 18th Ave., Eugene. The city of Cottage Grove will host Bohemia Mining Days Thurs., July 18 through Sun., July 21 in downtown Cottage Grove. Families can celebrate the city’s rich history with fun, food and entertainment.
The Springfield SummerFair will be held from 5:30 to 10 p.m. on Fri., July 19 and from 10 a.m. to 9:30 p.m. on Sat., July 20 at Island Park, 200 W. B St., Springfield. There will be live music each day along with fun family activities and delicious food.
Coburg Golden Years is scheduled for Fri., July 19 through Sun., July 21 at the Coburg Community Grange, located at 32663 Mill St. in Coburg. Admission is free. Families can experience arts and crafts, food booths, music and a celebratory parade.
Eugene Sunday Streets will be held Sun., July 21 from 11:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. in downtown Eugene at 10th and Monroe Streets. This is an annual free event that promotes healthy, active living by opening the city streets for people to walk, bike and roll to discover active transportation in a safe, traffic-free environment.
The McMenamins Family & Friends Night benefiting Early Childhood CARES will be held Tues., July 23 from 5 p.m. to 1 a.m. at McMenamins High Street Brewery & Café, located at 1243 High St. On this evening, McMenamins will donate 50 percent of its proceeds to Early Childhood CARES! Please help support Childhood CARES by taking your family out to eat or meeting your friends for a refreshing summer drink. No flyer is required. Please share this information with your family and friends and help us pack the place!
The Arc Lane County will host its monthly Families Connected meeting on Wed., July 24 from 6 to 8 p.m. at 4181 E St. Families Connected is a way for parents to come together to support each other and be supported. Dinner and respite care will be provided. This month’s meeting will focus on the new K Plan and how it will affect families. Please RSVP by emailing Sydney Shook or calling 541-343-5256 ext. 113.
The Lane County Fair will be held Wed., July 24 through Sun., July 28 at the Lane Events Center, 796 W. 13th Ave., Eugene. Admission is $7 for youth and $9 for adults. Kids under five years are admitted for free.
The city of Lowell will host a Blackberry Jam Festival on Fri., July 26 through Sun., July 28 at the Rolling Rock Interpretive Park, located between Jasper-Lowell Rd. and Moss St. The festival includes music, crafts, food, car show, fishing derby, quilt show and parade.
