Failed yet meaningful experiment
I played with the 3d motif in the example file and continue with my own 2d motif for 2d paneling. The repetition of the geometry create a lovely pattern that reminds me of dragon scales, so I decided to make it into a physical model. My initial idea is create dragon scale shape pattern which opens up a light pocket between each scales. Black on outside and gold in interior, so when light comes out, the interior gold will reflect out, glow on the surface to create a elegant look.
The result was not exactly what I was expected, probably due to the choice of material, the final work is too hard to bend to the exact dragon scale shape that I wanted, there is not enough space open for the light reflecting from the gold interior to the exterior black surface. But it did have some interesting wave shape light come out when I put pressure on the paper.
Lesson learned: 0.60 mat board is not a good choice when you want to do polysurface in small scale.
