Nicholas Sund RARE AmeriCorps Resource Assistance for Rural EnvironmentsMeet Nicholas Sund

Nicholas received his Bachelor’s degree in Urban Planning and Environmental Policy with a minor in Sustainable Design from Western Washington University. Nick interned at the City of Bellingham, where he gained valuable insights into planning and community development practices. During his time in the RARE AmeriCorps Program, Nick hopes to continue developing his professional skills while preparing for a lifetime of living, learning, and serving in rural environments. After his year with RARE, Nick plans to continue working in the field of urban planning and hopes to find his place in a rural community.

About Clatsop County Emergency Management

Clatsop County Emergency Management works to coordinate and facilitate emergency response and recovery within their jurisdiction to all natural and/or human-caused disasters. Day-to-day operations include whole community planning, public outreach/education and facilitation for various emergency management committees such as the County Emergency Preparedness Committee (EPREP), Local Emergency Planning Committee (LEPC), and Community Emergency Response Teams (CERT). The division also coordinates and facilitates emergency training with fire departments, police, volunteers, public works, medical and other emergency response agencies.

Nicholas is placed with Clatsop County Emergency Management, where he will develop and deliver a new Teen CERT-Community Emergency Response Team Program. He will present the new curriculum to the Clatsop County youth within the local school system. Nick will assist with the update process leading to a newly adopted Emergency Operations Plan, which will greatly assist the organization in the event of a disaster.
