Hazardous Waste Collection Suspended & Facility Closed

The University of Oregon hazardous waste facility will undergo a major refit
in the coming weeks (9/22/25 – 1/26/26). The refit will require a single break
(10/2-10/24) in the UO hazardous waste collection service to replace the
floor. EHS must empty the facility before this work.

Consequently:
1. Last day for Chemical Hazardous Waste (liquid and solid) collection:
October 2 at 2:00 pm
–A. Includes 55-gallon cardboard boxes
–B. Expired/unusable chemicals

2. Last day for Pathological Waste collection: October 2 at 2:00 pm

3. EHS will still be collecting  during this shutdown:
–A. Biohazard boxes
–B. Spent light bulbs
–C. Aerosols and rags
–D. Waste oil drums from Facilities/Housing/Athletics operations

4. Chemical Hazardous Waste and Pathological Waste collection will resume on October 27

REMEMBER:
Each research lab has a legal hazardous waste accumulation volume limit of 55 gallons, so please plan your work accordingly.
