4/12/23 Millrace Waterway Informational Notification

UPDATE 4/18/23:
The City of Eugene will be pulling booms from several locations along the Millrace waterway which were deployed to capture fuel released during an April 12 spill originating from the 76 Station on Franklin Blvd. Two booms will remain downstream, west of U of O’s Central Power Station. The City will be skimming residual oil from the surface of the Millrace during the removal of upstream booms; however, it is possible that minor oil sheens will be observed during the process of boom removal. The remaining two downstream booms will absorb these sheens.

Original notice:

An oil sheen has been observed on the Millrace Waterway by the Millrace Drive on April 12, 2023. The source has been determined to be a spill at an off-campus fueling station east of campus. The City of Eugene has been notified and is currently working with the site to contain the spill and clean up the resultant contamination. Booms have been placed across the Millrace upstream of campus to minimize the spread of contamination. A slight sheen or fuel odor may persist in the vicinity of the Millrace on campus as this issue is addressed throughout the day. EHS is involved and is tracking this issue.
