Welcome!

25 Sep 2015

We had an animated and very fascinating lecture delivered by Prof. Barbara Mossberg (Dr. B) and her harmonica yesterday. Kudos to those of you who came to a non-mandatory event in the morning across campus. Everyone at the CHC appreciates how awesome this class is and how involved you all already are in your education. We were also joined by faculty and staff members Prof. Roxann Prazniak, Dr. Mike Peixoto, Dr. Elizabeth Raisanen, Paula Braswell, and Elin England, who took time out of their busy schedules to join us!

Anticipation is rising for events with Emily St. John Mandel coming up really soon! Be sure to stop by the EMU Ballroom after convocation to get your book signed or come to a special event on Monday from 10-11 in the Chapman Library for a more intimate seminar with Mandel.

Lastly, I have been working with Dr. Lee Rumbarger to recognize those of you who contributed to the success of the CHC blog. Be sure to check your emails for special invitations of events.

Thank you to everyone who has posted so far! It’s been a pleasure reading everybody’s thoughts here. We look forward to hearing more from everybody. School starts in about a month, so make sure you’re ready to participate in some of the exciting events we’re planning.

Also, if you’re up to it, the university-wide Common Reading at the University of Oregon is also running a blog at commonreading.uoregon.edu. They have other fun topics of discussion and, if they really like your post, some really cool prizes that you could win. Feel free to also check them out!

Hi there! On behalf of all of us at the CHC, we’re glad you made it!

We hope you enjoyed the book and are ready to discuss!

To discuss, pick a topic from the discussion menu (they correspond to the questions in the reading guide you got at IntroDUCKtion) and share your ideas. Don’t forget to add page numbers when quoting or referencing something important! We also expect everyone to keep things relevant and respectful.

If you have an idea or any questions or comments, I’d love to hear them! Feel free to email me!

Go forth, Platypi!
