Biography

ElinPickingApplesElin “Fingers in the Mud” England joined Clark Honors College as Admissions Coordinator in September of 2014. Prior to joining CHC, Elin was the coordinator of a high school vocal program within the UO’s Oregon Bach Festival. When not assisting Paula Braswell in welcoming the newest crop of budding scholars to the CHC, Elin can be found at home on her organic farm in Pleasant Hill, happily planting, weeding, watering and harvesting fruits and veggies from the garden; collecting eggs from the chickens; and whipping all the fruits of her labors up into something tasty to eat. Elin is also the author of two cookbooks: Eating Close to Home: A Guide to Local Seasonal Sustenance in the Pacific Northwest and Beans, Grains, Nuts & Seeds: Further Adventures in Eating Close to Home.

Any of the numerous farmers markets…favorites are the downtown Tuesday market during the summer, the farmers market at Holiday Market, and Sprout, which is a year-round indoor farmers market in downtown Springfield.

Get to know the difference between water resistant and waterproof. Remember this difference when selecting jackets and footwear.

Sit on my front porch in my rocking chair with a good book or two. Or four.

Indian Runner ducks. They are good layers, excellent foragers for slugs and so forth, and are quite friendly. Like having a small comedy troupe in your backyard.
