Biography

IMG_0534Mark Carey is Associate Dean and Associate Professor of History in the Clark Honors College.

 

1. What is your favorite thing about the Clark Honors College?

Teaching amazing students.

2. What’s a fun place you like to go in Eugene?

Hendrick’s Park, Spencer Butte, Level-Up, the river trail for a bike ride, Autzen Stadium (at least when we win and stay dry), the soccer field near my house where I go with my two kids for all kinds of running and games.

3. Any advice for soon-to-be Platypi?

Relax, have fun, explore, take risks, and work hard.
Be yourself and don’t try to figure out what you “should” do or write or say; instead, try to figure out who you are and embrace it.
Also, seek out your professors and use us for advice, advising, and anything else. Don’t be strangers; we’re here to help.

4. What do you like to do for fun?

Laugh.

5. What’s your favorite type of duck?

A Duck that gets an A in my class (good luck!).

6. If you were to write a satirical news article (e.g. for The Onion) what would you title it?

“Why It Sucks to Be a Glacier.”
