The 2019 SAIL Chemistry camp is off and running! The week-long event for high school students participating in the UO SAIL program is sponsored by the Amanda Cook Lab with primary support from the UO Materials Science Institute, and additional support from the Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry
This year the focus is on the chemistry of materials! Campers will look at how common materials like plastics can be formed from starch extracted from potatoes, examine the effectiveness of sunscreens by digging into how they work and how they lose their ability to protect over time, explore the chemistry of photography and more. It’s a hands-on, student-led week of activities that will use science to dissect things we use every day!
