Bio

Filomela Tistere-Sarbu is a teacher of weaving and sewing at the Folk Arts School from Targu Jiu, with over 20 years of experience in teaching old crafts to interested students. She specializes in rug weaving at the weaving loom and in sewing/embroidering Romanian blouses. She learned this craft from her mother and currently she owns a shop with her mother and sister in Tismana, a village in the Gorj County. She is currently enrolled in a graduate course at the “December 1st 1918” the University of Alba Iulia in Research, Preservation, and Improvement of the Cultural Heritage. Tristere-Sarbu has participated in numerous cultural and tourism events to promote Romanian traditions in Israel (Jerusalem, 2016), Austria (Vienna, 2004, 2005, 2006, 2014, 2016), Spain (Madrid, 2004, 2017), France (Paris, 2017) Poland (Warsaw, 2016), Romania (Bucharest, Craiova, 2014 – 2018). Her work was also featured at the Olympic Games of French-speaking countries (Nice, 2013). In Romania, Tristere-Sarbu has participated at Folk Crafts Fairs at many Romanian museums: Astra Museum from Sibiu, the Village Museum from Bucharest, and the Museum of Ethnography from Transylvania in Cluj-Napoca. The National Library of Romania in Bucharest featured her hand-embroidered and sewn traditional Romanian blouses in “The National Romanian Blouse Exhibition” (October – November, 2019).
